IP video intercoms for small walk-ups, courtyard buildings, six-flats and condo conversions with five to eight residences. At this size the app-based approach pays for itself outright: a single network drop and PoE feed at the entry replace risers to every apartment, and resident turnover is handled in software rather than by reprogramming hardware at the panel.
Six- and eight-button panels are the most common replacements for aging analog intercoms in older American housing stock. Those entries are usually solid masonry, which is why surface-mount models tend to win here — no cavity to cut, no wall to rebuild afterward.
