Flush-mount
Door stations, access control devices and housings that recess into the wall and finish level with the surrounding surface — the specification most architects and general contractors write. Flush mounting requires a backbox cavity set during rough-in, so plan it into the wall assembly before the entry is closed up. Retrofitting a cavity into finished masonry is rarely worth the cost; for those jobs, see the surface-mount range.
