Bought a home with a DoorBird already installed? Picked one up secondhand, switched phones, or misplaced the QR “Digital Passport” that came with it? You’re not alone — being locked out of a DoorBird you physically own is the single most common reason people contact DoorBird support.
Here’s why it happens, what your real options are, and how our US-based team can get you back in.
Why you can’t just “reset the password”
DoorBird ties administrator access to the original owner’s account and a one-time QR code called the Digital Passport, printed on the paperwork that ships with the device. There is no in-app “forgot password / recover access” flow a new person can complete on their own. If the Digital Passport and the original login are gone, access has to be recovered or transferred through DoorBird’s official process.
Your options to regain access
- Find the Digital Passport & original login. Check closing documents, the installer’s handover packet, or the previous owner. The QR code is the fastest path back in.
- Ask the previous owner or installer to transfer it. If they still have the account, they can hand ownership to you.
- Request an ownership transfer from DoorBird. When the prior owner or installer is unreachable, DoorBird can transfer ownership after you submit proof that you own the property or device — for example a deed, closing statement, or purchase invoice.
- Factory reset — only if you can physically reach the device and have admin rights. A reset can’t be done remotely, and the unit is often mounted out of reach.
Common dead-ends (and what to do)
The installer went out of business. The previous owner is unreachable, uncooperative, or has passed away. The device is mounted too high to reach. Any of these turns a “quick reset” into DoorBird’s manual proof-of-ownership process — which is exactly where most people get stuck. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
Let a US-based expert handle it
We guide you through DoorBird’s official ownership-transfer and access-recovery process, help you prepare the right proof of ownership, and then reconfigure the device — admin account, app pairing, users, and settings — once you’re back in. Start with a quick call or a full remote session.
